Founded in the Spring of 2022, The Latine Graduate and Professional Student Association (LGPSA) sought to foster a sense of community and belonging for students who identify as, or support the culture of, Latin American and Hispanic people. Since the start of the academic year, LGPSA has grown to over 75 students representing many Latin American and Hispanic countries. Prior to becoming a student-run organization, LGPSA originated as an empowerment group under The Graduate School’s Initiative for Minority Excellence (IME) known as La Familia.
Members have formed new relationships with students across UNC’s Graduate and Professional programs through activities spanning Cafés con Leche, where students meet over pastries and coffee, to trivia nights and other co-sponsored events with the Carolina Latinx Center and beyond.
