Speaker: Adriana Maria Cortés Jiménez
Date: October 6, 2022
Time: 6:00pm
Address: FedEx Global Education Center, 4th Floor Space

Many North Carolinians celebrate ancestry in the heartland of Mexico in an agricultural region called the Bajío. Speaker Adriana Cortés Jiménez is the director of a grassroots organization in the Bajío state of Guanajuato that has spent decades working to sustainably advance education and economic development in collaboration with local communities, the private sector, and government. Some examples of this work include expanding rural access to secondarVisit Sitey education, organizing residents to install community sanitation systems, and building a cultural heritage tourism industry to revitalize towns depopulated by emigration. Adriana Cortés Jiménez will describe what can be accomplished when members of affected communities take the lead in development initiatives. This presentation will be in Spanish with English language interpretation.

Parking is available for $1/hour after 5pm in the parking garage under the FedEx Global Education Center and in other locations on campus. Visitors must use the ParkMobile (zone 4500) app. The FedEx Global Education Center is located near several bus stops serving Chapel Hill and surrounding areas. The closest stops are located on Pittsboro Street at State Employees’ Credit Union and S. Columbia Street at Sitterson Hall/UNC NROTC Naval Armory.

This event is co-sponsored by GoGlobalNC and Fundación Comunitaria del Bajío.
