Heels Pa’Lante!: A Preview of Latinx Heritage Month

Hi everyone, my name is Jackie Santillan, and I am the chair for the Latinx Heritage Month committee at the Carolina Latinx Center. This year we have a lineup of in-person and virtual events to celebrate the cultures and contributions of the Latinx community. From September 15th to October 15th, student organizations and departments will be hosting workshops, discussions, film screenings and even karaoke nights for everyone to come out and enjoy. We will be seeing annual events, such as Carnaval, a Keynote Address, and Top of Lenoir Dinner.

The committee has planned and prepared for LHM throughout the course of 2021. We decided on our theme “Heels Pa’lante” as it resonates with our Carolina family now more than ever. It translates to “Heels moving forward” towards a year of growth and prosperity and past the obstacles of 2020. Join us this year in learning about Latinx identities and engaging in different ways of thinking
