Marcela Torres-Cervantes

Marcela Torres-Cervantes (she/her/hers) is the Associate Director for the Carolina Latinx Center and a dedicated leader in higher education with nearly 10 years of experience building innovative programs and fostering sustainable practices. As a proud Mexicana raised in Clinton, NC, Marcela is passionate about creating inclusive spaces that honor diverse identities and empower students to thrive.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from The George Washington University and a Master of Education from the University of Georgia. Her professional journey has been shaped by a commitment to advancing equity, normalizing mental health discussions in first-generation communities, and supporting student identity development. Marcela’s leadership is rooted in collaboration, building community connections, and developing initiatives that endure beyond their initial impact.

Marcela approaches her work with a vision for long-term impact and a deep commitment to student success. Outside of work, she proudly calls Durham home, where she enjoys exploring local coffee shops and supporting community initiatives.
