¡Bienvenidos familia! We are once again so glad to have everyone back and announce the success of our most recent Open House. On Wednesday, August 24th, the Carolina Latinx Center hosted its annual open house to kick off the fall semester.

Switching it up from last year we included a fun photobooth, Latinx music, and delicious food. We were supported by so many of our wonderful Latinx student organizations and departments around campus, including Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity (LUL), Mi Pueblo, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Students United for Immigrant Equality (SUIE), the Association of Latino Professionals of America (ALPFA), the Bridge, Omega Phi Beta Sorority (OPB), Lambda Pi Chi (LPC), and the Latina/o Studies Program (LSP).

Another new addition to our familia this year was the wonderful catering done by Berto’s Chimis. For those who are not familiar with Berto’s Chimis or unfortunately could not make it to our open house, Berto’s Chimis is a delicious Dominican food truck, spearheaded by Roberto Diaz, that serves iconic Dominican chimi sandwiches. In addition to our new food and setup, we were pleased to welcome Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz to nuestro centro. After so much time and effort was put into cultivating our center, being able to host such events and important members of the community means so much.

Nonetheless, the support from our amazing neighbors does not go unnoticed and we would like to thank; the Asian American Center, the University Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Department of Public Policy, the University Career Services, the UNC Libraries, the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, and Truist for your support. It was so heartwarming seeing everyone together and to welcome back new and old faces. As Latinx Heritage Month is already upon us, we cannot wait for what is to come.
