Meet Student Organization: SOAR

SOAR is a volunteer organization that works with young Latinx students at McDougle Middle School in Carrboro. Our main aims are to mentor the kids through STEAM-based activities, meaningful discussions, physical activity, and effective goal setting and reaching. Many of our kids come from first-generation parents or are first-generation themselves so, the concept of preparation for higher education can be something difficult to navigate and explore. We want to help them develop a solid interest in higher education from a young age to set them up well in becoming good college candidates through high school. We meet from 3:30 to 5:00 every other Monday where we take care of transportation for mentors. We are currently looking for volunteers to bring into the program.
