SOAR is a volunteer organization that works with young Latinx students at McDougle Middle School in Carrboro. Our main aims are to mentor the kids through STEAM-based activities, meaningful discussions, physical activity, and effective goal setting and reaching. Many of our kids come from first-generation parents or are first-generation themselves so, the concept of preparation for higher education can be something difficult to navigate and explore. We want to help them develop a solid interest in higher education from a young age to set them up well in becoming good college candidates through high school. We meet from 3:30 to 5:00 every other Monday where we take care of transportation for mentors. We are currently looking for volunteers to bring into the program. As of right now, the application is open and rolling. If you are interested, please email, or click or click on this link
